Weekend of cleaning

Spent two-hours at the studio today doing very-much-needed cleaning. Then came home and cleaned the kitchen which also needed-it-very much. Now I just have to wait for the water heater to get hot again so I can get a hot bath in. Until then I think watching another bad episode of the damnation called Lost that I am stuck watching like some some of train wreck with some kitty snuggles and a beer sounds about right.

First Hot Springs trip of 2013

Saw the lights dancing overhead, enjoyed the goodness of a hot soak in the hot springs, drank a drink that looks like the lights dancing. And had dessert with great company.

Terrific end to day that started out rather poorly!

I might just kill myself doing this

Upset tummy, again. Last night I cooked something I would not normally eat when Michael is here taking of me.

Coincidence? I think not.

Damn you mozzarella sticks! Damn you! At least I can work from home while I deal with the tummy woes…..

All by myself

I can mange to do all I do when I have someone there to take care of me. Doing all this on my own is hard 🙁

A sad day

I’m feeling very sad today; my husband’s mom passed away this morning. Even though we have been married for almost ten years, I didn’t really know her that well, but I do know she was a pretty cool lady that had the most awesome relationship with her only son and he is going to miss her more than I can even imagine.

From Michael:

“She is gone now. I am contented that we were able to have a very nice 2+ hours long phone conversation last Monday and that I got here in time to kiss her goodbye. There was no suffering at the end. In lieu of comments of sympathy, please instead reach out to someone you love and let them know.”

The Ever-inevitable Taxes

If I understand the tax laws properly, I don’t actually need to fill out 1099s for my contracted teachers for 2012!

Oh, darn, just realized there was that Oct. workshop teacher. Back to the books for me.

Thoughts on being home alone

First night dinner alone: instant mashed potatoes and half an acorn squash. Also, just started watching “The Amazing Race.” It’s pretty funny already!

First morning on my own: My family is on the other side of the U.S. right now but in two different states. They both wanted to talk to me this morning and yet both waited until 10am my time to call. My family knows me so very well. 🙂

First full day of cooking for myself: I’m thinking it might be a bad idea for me to try to prepare meals for myself. Today I’ve had instant oatmeal (it’s organic at least!), spaghetti (sauce from a jar), pierogies with fried onions and more instant mashed potatoes with a half a pound of baked-in-the-oven bacon (from Homegrown, so it’s from hormone-free and free-range piggies at least!)

Universe, it seems you can be so very, very unjust.

My husband’s mom had a hemorrhagic stroke on Wednesday and now he is flying home to Virgina to be with her. That same morning my daughter told me she wanted to move to Alaska, for me, that is finally my baby coming home. Why is it when I get some good news, there is almost always bad news of what seems to be an equal or heavier weight?

Right before this I was floundering in my studio and thought I was going to have to close since I was not bringing in enough income to survive, so I went back to work as a programmer. Once the weight of financial stress seemed to be lessened, of course we get a massive fuel bill and car repairs need to be made.

These are just the last two things. There are so many other examples of the Universe appearing to balance itself. I just seem to keep getting stuck on the short end of the stick.

Friday night of housecleaning?

Oh yes, I know how to live large! In more serious contemplation I think I might have to hire someone to come in once a month to do the major cleaning if I’m going to keep this schedule of weekday work 30 hours plus running the studio nights and weekends. Either that or give up on sleep. Which I am pretty sure is just not going to happen….

New Year’s Eve

Worked a few hours on New Year’s Eve then went snowboarding for the first time in about 15 years. Full photos here

I have a really old Burton board that I have dragged around with me from Colorado to Florida and now to Alaska. She was used when I got her, which makes her ‘vintage’ now. When I got her, I had just started learning and had only been snowboarding MAYBE four times, but liked it so much I invested in a good pair of googles and boots, which, like the board, have been stored and moved around for the last 15 or so years. All equipment worked just fine though and I got at least a half a dozen compliments on my board.

I went with a friend and her husband.

I spent most of my time on my knees. This sport should be called falling down, at least my version of it should.

After snowboarding we met Michael for some food at Seoul Gate.

Then a few errands, plus a run to HooDoo Brewery for some growler fills.

And finally fireworks at the university.
