Change in plans and more lessons on expectations

My vet called and rescheduled the appointment for the boa and the study group I thought I needed to be at tonight was a figment of my imagination so all of a sudden I have the entire night off. It’s a really good thing too, since the final weekend of Yoga teacher training is coming up very, very soon and all of a sudden I’m realizing I still have a lot of reading to do.

Comfy chair, reading glasses and a yoga book or three, here I come!

Lessons to be learned

Apparently my current lesson to learn is to stop making plans and having expectations.  Either that or the lesson is to more gracefully accept when plans changes and expectations are not met. Considering my propensity for making plans and setting expectations, perhaps the latter is what I should focus on.

Case in point: I decided to take an extra day off after the long three-day weekend in order to rest and have some quality fun time with my husband, since the majority of the weekend was supposed to be filled with dance workshops.

The plan was for me to do the daytime workshops for three days, the last of which was to begin really early so I was going to come home and nap and then later that night we were planning an aurora watching excursion since we could sleep in the next day, on our extra day off.  On our actual day off together we were going to go hiking, most likely going out to Angel Rocks for the first time.

I attend two of the three days of workshops and on day two I started to feel like I was coming down with something affecting my lungs so I took the third day off.  I spent most of that day lying about the house feeling rather poorly and more than anything dreading what I was pretty sure was going to turn into a full blown bought with respiratory illness, as I tend to get whenever any kind of cold passes through my vicinity.  It was also cold and rainy which made us think that our hiking trip was likely going to not happen, which further dampened my mood that day.  It was still grey and overcast that night, which meant there would be not viewing of auroras that night.  I tried not to feel too sad, but at the same time I was disappointed.

On our extra day off the day started out grey and I still was not feeling well, so we decided to spend the day at home.  We set up a plan of a few chores that we would do that really needed to get done.  One of those chores was dealing with an issue that has been plaguing us for over two months now, that is, the bed bugs.  We are killing them, but they are very tenacious little critters and the fact that we have to spray poison and strip and deep clean bedrooms every other week is becoming quite a chore which is heavy to bear on such a regular basis.  I can only hope that eventually we will kill them all since Michael keeps threatening to let the house freeze or to burn it all to the ground.  While both are effective means, neither is really an appropriate method of treatment, but I do understand his frustration.    Strangely, even though it is incredibly  frustrating, as unpleasant as this has been to deal with this situation seems to bother me less than him.

After the day’s work we enjoyed a delicious dinner and a few shows.  Just before going to bed I decided to look outside to see what the night sky might hold and lo and behold I could tell the lights were dancing even from my home which is located downtown Fairbanks and has lots of light pollution.  We both had to work the next day so I knew that an excursion was out of the question, so I walked around our block to see what I could see.  I saw lights dancing and a light pillar.  It was lovely.  I enjoyed it for the brief time that I could stand to be outside in what was essentially my pajamas and then I went inside and declared to my husband that this coming weekend we would try again.

I did not pout, feel sorry for myself for my plan not working nor did I get angry, all of which is an improvement I think.

LYS, take 2: Day 19, Thursday, July 17

I was supposed to work on our vivs with Caroline today, but she had work to do still when I showed up at 6:30 so I helped her out at the shop for a while then I came home and rested.

Good thing I had an easy night since I was really, really sore from SUP class yesterday. I even woke up this morning at 5am to get myself some ibuprofen since there are muscles hugging my spine that I’m fairly sure I’ve NEVER used before and they woke me up complaining about their first-time usage yesterday.

Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga!

My local yoga studio was offering SUP yoga classes so I decided to try.  It was so much fun. And holy shit, it was such a workout. I was not so aware of how much of a workout it was until I tried to get out of bed the next morning and all the muscles around my spine screamed at me. And then my thighs decided to voice their opinion and started screaming as well and none of it stopped until Sunday.
I was able to do some poses on the SUP, but warrior eludes me.  I’ll get it the next time, I’m sure!

Sixty degrees outside?  Not too sure about this temperature for being in the water….

We had the place nearly to ourselves!  Getting familiar with our boards, prior to standing up.

Start by kneeling, then stand up!

LYS, take 2: Day 17, Tuesday, July 15

It’s so nice to take class and be a student again. I thoroughly enjoyed the Beginner’s Yoga class tonight at Heart Stream Yoga. I was dripping sweat! Burned 219 calories so I went and got some of these at the store to treat myself

LYS, take 2: Day 16, Monday, July 14

Walked to work and back today. Turns out that is only 170 for the total of 30 minutes it takes to do the walk. Also started my first day of what turned into five days of salad since bought three huge heads of lettuce at the farmers market yesterday and I promised to make salad every day this week.

LYS, take 2: Day 15, Sunday, July 13

Second weekend of dealing with bugs. Had to take the whole room apart again to spray, but at least we decided to build a base for the frame so now the mattress is off the floor. And I think I’ve done at least 15 loads of laundry this week.

It could be worse. I just keep thinking to myself, there is so much more that could be wrong in our lives, this is just a little annoyance.

LYS, take 2: Day 14, Saturday, July 12

Worked on our homemade snake cages (aka viv, short for vivarium) today. I learned how to use a miter saw and even ALMOST got to use it. But then we determined we needed a new blade for the saw, which meant a run to Home Depot, so we also got wood that we needed while there.

We got back to the shop, took off the blade guard and swapped blades, then spent at least 30 minutes trying to get the blade guard back on. We tried the internet, instruction manuals, even called her dad (since it was his); he said he has never taken the guard off in the decades he has had it. Whoopsie!

By the time we got close enough to making it work, it was too late to continue, so we decided that we would let Michael have a look at it since he’s good at figuring those kinds of things out, and then we would finish up making our window frames later in the week.

But we got this much done!

This was also the day of AYP and I had a friend/student performing so I was really going to try to go out to see her, but the timing just didn’t work. So I stayed at home and had a quiet night in. I’m starting to really appreciate those quiet nights to myself. Fall will bring evenings of dance and busy-ness all too quickly, so I’m going to savor this while I can.

Trooped today and even left work early to do it. It was for the library’s Summer Reading Program. I really need to get new armor.

In other news, there still is a Death Star?
