Walk and Wine – First 5k of the season

I participated in the Alaska Girls Walk and Wine 5k today. I walked the whole thing, but I did it!

I’m pretty pleased about this since I also left work midday since I was not feeling well due to some weird stomach pains. I’m not sure why my stomach starting cramping, but I drank a ginger beer to try to calm it down, tried to stay at work for an hour and when it didn’t feel any better, I came home and took a two-wand-a-half hour nap to try to sleep off the pain. Woke up in less pain, had a quick bite to eat and then went to meet my dancing ladies for the 5k

Note: “First” implies there will be more of these. We shall have to see….

shred!

I read today that the process of xml parsing with SQL is called Shredding. I find that to be an appropriate term for what I’m doing.

Today I worked out how to get at child elements, attributes and values when there are multiple children of a child element. It’s not pretty, but it works. This took me hours to work out and I’m fairly sure I found the end of the internet since in the process of all my googling I got to a msdn page that said “Content Not Found.”

and we’re back!

Day six without my domain working. Called the registrar expecting to be very upset since I’ve made three other calls trying to get this resolved and the person I dealt with today was very, very helpful!

As such, my personal email is working again and eventually my website should be functioning once DNS propagates fully.

Hooray!

wine itis

After lying awake for an hour last night, I finally got out of bed to drink a glass of wine and have some chocolate. Apparently this can help with insomnia! Granted it took another hour to get to sleep, but sleep finally came after 1am.

urgent care, here I come?

My email has been offline for three days now. As such I had a calm and quiet weekend at home and got lots done in the garden and yard yesterday with help from my wonderful family.

If only the weird symptoms I’ve been having since I started the meds I started taking a week ago for the pain and possible infection of a tooth that I had a root canal on Wednesday would stop. I’ve stopped all meds as of Friday, but the crazy heat flashes, sweating, dizziness, partial facial numbness and the diminished appetite are so not normal for me. I’m debating heading over to urgent care after work to see if they can run some blood tests and work out the problem.

domain down

After my registrar tried to charge me auto-renew my site for three years instead of the one I always do, I fought it, got reimbursed then forgot to pay my bill for the one year renewal. Silly me!

Today is is first time in 13 years my domain has been offline: http://web.archive.org/web/*/perlgurl.net

Anyway, if you’ve sent me an email and it bounced, resend tomorrow or PM me. The site is supposed to be back up “in 24 hours.”

Pain is better than the meds

When people go to the dentist these are usually the things that cause the most anxiety and stress. For me, I think my intolerance to meds (today it’s an antibiotic I’m reacting to) is worse than the drilling or any pain in my face.

Boo-hoo, no pain drugs for me

I’m scheduled for a root canal tomorrow. I put it off until after the performance so that I could do the performance, knowing that I was hurting last week but figuring I could manage it. Yesterday I started having terrible pain so I called the dentist who gave me some antibiotics in case of infection and some pain meds to help until my appointment.

Now I can add tramadol to the list of meds I can’t take without having reactions that are worse than the relief it provides, at least while I’m awake. I guess while I slept last night I didn’t seem to notice the slew of adverse reactions I just spent an hour dealing with. This med also gives me heart palpitations, shaking, problems with seeing and concentration and overall feeling of anxiety and stress.

Guess I’ll have to get through another root canal on ibuprofen for pain management, at least while I’m awake. I vote for recovery through sleep!

Kill all the fog machines!

Day two of recovery from being exposed to the fog machine and the burning sensation in my chest has turned into wheezing and a deep barking cough. I hate fog machines. Anyone who adds them to shows is on my official list of people I no longer like.
